Erik A. Otto is an accomplished healthcare industry executive and technologist, now turned science fiction author and philanthropist. He was formerly President and Co-Founder of InSpark Technologies, a digital health company that applied advanced pattern recognition algorithms to warn people with diabetes in advance of periods of risk.
His most recent novel, called Detonation, is an immersive, action-packed narrative that is a cautionary reflection on our own innovation-obsessed culture. It follows two societies that are connected, but centuries apart, and their struggle against a superintelligent machine. Amid ideological clashes and political plotting, a diverse cast discovers this insidious threat, one which few can fathom, and fewer can challenge. They are forced into an escalating conflict against a tireless enemy. As the world again convulses towards catastrophy, a new hope emerges that could lift them from the ashes . . . one that could just as soon hasten their demise.
Erik’s early writing includes A Toxic Ambition, a propulsive young adult novel taking place in a socially fragmented future San Francisco. Coming later in 2018 will be his release of A Tale of Infidels, a story of sinners and traitors and their desperate plight to save their medieval world. They must band together to fight against an entrenched conspiracy, with their only weapon being the rusty blade that is truth.
In addition to writing, Erik is currently serving as the Managing Director of Ethagi, an organization dedicated to promoting the safe and ethical use of artificial general intelligence technologies. Erik lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife and two children.
