Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund
In 2002, the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund was established to provide deserving aviation students a scholarship grant in Jason’s name. Jason was the Captain of United Flight 93 on 9/11/2001 which was brought down outside Shanksville, PA by the passengers and crew, instead of the terrorist's intended target, the U.S. Capitol Building.
To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, the Fund is launching a significant donation drive designed to expand the scholarship nationally.
The goal of the Wordpress-based website will be to:
1)Communicate Jason’s story and the mission of the Scholarship Fund.
2)Drive fundraising and volunteer participation centering on 10th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser and Golf Tournament. An easy to see “Give Today” button or link to Donate page should be included.
3)Drive social engagement – Follow via email sign up, “Like” on Facebook, Follow on Twitter, Official YouTube page, and among qualified youth, Apply.
The website today at Dahlfund.org is a solid functional start, we are looking to further enhance the look/feel to attract more corporate donors.
The tagline for the fund is “Helping Young Aviators Achieve Their Dreams”.
This project is being considered for a 99Designs.com case study.
Primary audience will be individuals age 35-65, representing major airline pilot unions, corporate giving campaigns, aviation enthusiasts on sites such as FlyerTalk.com and those who wish to see some good come from the sacrifice made by the passengers and crew of Flight 93. The page will also serve as a source of information for the parents and youth interested in applying for the scholarship, age 16-20. Jason’s story, his passion for flying, and his desire to help others will resonate with this target audience and prompt them to action.
May of these individuals are active on social networks- dominantly Facebook and Twitter. The fund recently launched pages on both, and will be used to drive traffic into the website. Volunteerism is also high among the target audience, who may wish to participate in upcoming events – namely the 10th Anniversary Gala and Golf Tournament to be held at Pine Hurst Country Club in Denver, CO on September 10th-11th, 2011.
While to-date most donors have been individuals or small businesses, the Fund wishes to attract more corporate donors to the Fund.
