- Please make “Linkr” the focus of the logo. “Education” should be included, but be able to be easily removed from the logo for promotional material leaving the logo with “Linkr” effective on its own. - For legal concerns, we must not be associated with LinkedIn. So our logo must be different from LinkedIn’s in most possible ways (ie: color, shape, font, style, etc.) - Also although Linkr is about Education, we don’t want anything related to classical school symbols (ie: pen, graduation hat, etc.) We’d like the colors to convey: energy, enthusiasm, freedom, lightness / ease of use, modernity/disruption Now onto the product! ;-) - Linkr is a SAAS / Cloud application platform that is designed for higher education teachers around the world. - Collaboration in the 21st century is standard in all walks of life and effective collaboration is crucial in 21st century work. However, collaboration is barely taught in school. Linkr aims at changing the face of higher education by providing tools to foster collaborative work across classes, campuses and borders, inviting teachers and students to interact and collaborate on a global scale. - Linkr enables professors to access new and effective forms of teaching while making their work easier to manage; Linkr gives students the tools to achieve more in an engaging online environment. - Linkr enables teachers and students from the same class and/or institution and other classes and/or institutions to easily “Link” with each other offering new tools to teachers and students in “Linked” classes. For example, >>> Language classes in Japan and Quebec Link and then give and receive feedback about issues that are important to each community, learning about the world and how to communicate across cultures, while improving language skills and recognizing students’ roles as experts of their respective native languages; >>> Classes in Vermont and Alabama collaborate on courses on history and sociology, discussing the issue of race in authentic and teacher-managed interactions; >>> A group of classes from across France and Canada collaborate and address global issues from local perspectives, discovering new solutions to problems and sharing these ideas beyond the collaborative classes through publication to the globe. Who We Help: Teachers, Students, and Communities What We Do: We provide a service and software that enables teachers and students to engage in open inter-class collaboration and safe online publishing. Linkr helps teachers make Education more collaborative, more participative and more engaging for students. We help increase learning outcomes and, we hope, spread values of sharing, transparency, understanding, respect of others and their differences. Why We Do It: We believe learning happens, ideas are sparked, and communities are improved when students and teachers are empowered and can communicate and collaborate freely and comfortably. We believe cultural understanding and deep learning happen through engaging students in authentic interactions and experiences led by teachers, not in mechanical processes that technology often entrusts with the learning process.

Il brief di design
- Professors and students are frustrated by a stagnant and closed set of platforms provided by institutions and seek ways to bring student experiences into the 21st century by breaking down institutional silos and giving students access to a global audience. - Linkr was designed by teachers to avoid overloading teachers with more work, enabling teachers to easily manage student collaborations and online publishing. - Linkr makes such work possible by allowing students to post work in a safe and open educational network that protects them from aggressive feedback, SPAM, cyberbullying, etc while giving them, in partnership with teachers, control of those with whom they interact. - Linkr is affordable so that teachers can, for a small cost, save time and improve all their classes. While Linkr will have a paying subscription, it won’t be all for profit. Any school that would want to use Linkr without the financial means to do so will be provided a free licence, so that knowledge can be spread and shared among everyone, and not only the wealthiest of us. - Linkr already exists in a unrefined beta form under a different name, newsactivist.com that is currently successfully connecting classes across 10 countries, enabling better learning for nearly 10,000 students and improving the teaching experience for dozens of teachers. Testimonials below speak to how collaboration between teachers, students, classes and campuses increases student engagement and learning outcomes:: >>> Eric Kaldor, PhD, SUNY Brockport, Associate Sociology Professor: I have found NewsActivist to be a surprisingly powerful tool for teaching writing and engaging students with critical issues and their own learning. NewsActivist provides a unique mechanism for students to receive feedback on their writing from students they could only connect with through NewsActivist. Whether students are counting ‘views’ or responding to one another, NewsActivist focuses students on writing for an audience. The opportunity for international collaboration means that dialogue can focus students on the challenges of intercultural communication. >>> Norm Spatz, CEGEP Vieux-Montreal, Business and ESL Professor: I discovered NewsActivist through my activities in Profweb and saw its potential as a tool to promote contact between my class and the class I was partnering with in a research project...What I didn’t foresee, however, was the exposure that NewsActivist offered my students. Once my students had made their posts, their information was available to a much wider community. Comments from native English speakers in English schools about the content of my students’ posts affirmed the value of their projects as well as the value of mastering a second language to open doors. >>> Natalie Geukers- NewsActivist Student Blogger, January- May 2013- 2013-2014- Social Media Representative, Champlain Student Association I was much more motivated to write my blog posts then my regular essays because I knew some people would actually read it and my opinion could have a voice. We could also see what other students thought of what we were doing or give our opinion on other people's posts whether we agreed or disagreed, which motivated me to write better posts. I got to work on a subject that really matters to me and it made me care about it even more.
