Welcome to my project!
I am not looking for cliche --at least not someone else's cliche! I don't want a "canned" look to my logo. I don't want a logo that looks corny or looks like a cheap tattoo! This is a project with some definite creative art potential.
I want a professional, serious, and highly creative design that will market to major international corporations, militaries, law enforcement, and civilians concerned with training in Special Forces style combat techniques. More than just martial arts hand to hand fighting, my instructors teach the use of firearms, knife fighting, and also specialized schools in close quarter battle (urban warfare). We teach you how to stay alive in the worst of circumstances!
The logo will be used as a stand alone logo, and, in whole or in part, used to develop a website, appear on powerpoint slides, on stationary and business cards, on patches, and other logo items like polo shirts and hoodies, on course completion certificates, and as part of a uniform on clothing. In other words, it is sort of like a military patch or martial arts school logo. I want a logo that when someone takes a class from our company, they want to buy a logo sweatshirt; when their friends see the logo on a course certificate, they want to sign up for the next one! There has to be a motivational element in the design!
I am a visual guy and therefore like imagery a lot. Creative design-integrated conceptual fonts, blended or compound images such as (snake/man/commando/ninja) are interesting to me. I want to bring together the ancient (samurai, ninja, Spartan) with the modern (navy SEAL, special forces, SWAT), with the mythic (snake, viper), and perhaps with a very creative kanji writing of the Chinese word "snake." I also like globe and maps imagery to signify "worldwide." As you can tell from the uploaded images, I like the "action poses of people," --I like to see knives, swords, pistols, rifles, tactical operations, and martial arts moves in the art.
Just as a starting point, I have three initial ideas (I am not welded to these concepts, you may bring something entirely different that just blows me away), which are:
One idea that I have had is to have an artistic rendering of the Chinese character for "snake" in red (or a red snake design) on a khaki background and then superimposed over it a modern warrior (SWAT, military, etc.), with an ancient warrior next to him or blended in the image somehow (samurai, ninja), both in black--- and under that a stylistic motto: "Training the Modern Warrior." This would be on the left side of the design (see Rogue example image that I uploaded). On the right side, we would have the company name: "Viper Personal Combat Systems." It would be iin a creative and "snake-like" font (see some of the "viper" designs that I uploaded). This is a fairly complex design! For marketing purposes, the logo image can be selected independently from the slogan and from the company name --in other words, each component can be used separately. My only caution on this one is that there is a fine line between having a complex unity and being "too busy."
My second idea. If you want to try for this one, it will take super intuitive skills! I am also interested in seeing a simple, symbolic, and integrated design (such as the first uploaded image with the trident and net), that is very simple and kind of mysterious! The simple design would have to convey a lot of feeling and information (everything in the above paragraph) but do so subconsciously. It would have to enbody the "distilled essence" of what I am looking for --it should have strong associative power and just be one thing, one aspect, that sums it up. This would be a terrific project and, I think, quite a design, and thought-experiment, challenge!
Finally in my third idea, I am looking for something that resonates with the primitive parts of the mind and simultaneously excites the interest of a modern mind about the concept of a warrior --a connection between the past and present, sword and assault rifle, ninja and special forces. This design should inspire confidence while feeding the imagination! I think that this can be a very interesting and challenging design. This design could be similar to a military shoulder patch, which has varrious "symbolic" components of which the meanings are cornerstone to the values of that military group.
My fourth option is up to you! Since I am not a graphic artist, I defer to you to come up with something that you think might fulfill the thoughts and feelings that I have expressed in my suggestions; or, it may just be something that you see and I haven't yet seen in the concepts.
I have uploaded many images that you can use to feed imaginaton and creativity. I own the right to the ninja with daggers and also the viper embossing stamp with chinese "strike of the snake" written in it. The other images are random, some are public and some have copyrights. The SWAT and military figures are all copyrighted, but that general image is interesting to me. I really like the snake mouth coming into the V for viper, but that is also someone else's image. The Chinese characters all mean "snake" and I really like the red/khaki one, as well as the red/khaki design for "Rogue." Every image I uploaded struck me in some way. I like the power of the ninja, but it needs to have some reference to modern warfare and also to the idea of a snake, e.g. viper. Just some more ramblings that you might find useful when creating art for me.
Also, some of the imagery, such as the embosser, may also be used in conjunction with your design --e.g. as a stamp on a training certificate. So think of how some of these things might blend together in an overall design.
Finally, I also have a Ph.D. in philosophy, and somehow want my image to have something of a philosophical depth to it. I know it is about violence, but I see this as the kind of violence that saves lives, defends cultures, and forms the basis for courage and heroism. So, if you can bring all these concepts together with your creative and artistic mind, then I will sing your praises! You are truly a genius!
I am looking forward to seeing the creations of your mind and how you express these ideas into artistic form! Thank you for willing to apply your creative genius and remarkable talents to the creation of my logo!
