We're building a site aggregating information on (great) deals offered by multiple brands. Something like coupons of everything from groceries to electronics.
The goal is to have a mascot and logo that can be easily identified. Must be funny, maybe a little cartoonish.
We're looking for two ideas to work either separated or combined: an iconic textual logo "Kuponic" and a mascot to go with it. Remember: they must work separately and together, so don't forget to use compatible colors, fonts, styles, whatever!
Style: sociable, friendly, funny, pragmatical, simple, cartoonish.
Social network users; discount-seekers; coupon clippers; smart-phone users; tech-consumers (facebook, four-square, places).
It should be easily scalable for big images and very small ones like the favicon.
Must be simple, clean, minimalist, yet with an underlaying comic personality. Very non-formal and easy to the eye. Techie, fashionable, trendsetting, stylish, chic, cool, light (as in ready to jump on the next great deal).
Our narrow-minded ideas (not to be strictly followed):
maybe something alien, from Planet Kupon (beware, this is thin ice, no crappy stuff);
must be an humanoid;
avatar-like customization, anyone will be able to build their own kuponic character without straying off from the basic idea you're to build;
It will evolve to a whole new-race of beings but with the same distinctive origin.
The story briefing (very open to suggestions):
Planet Kupon is a great place where everyone finds the best deal when buying stuff. Bolstered with this finding, the Kuponic's high-priests urge them to spread the word, to crusade into to other planets throughout the galaxy.
Some examples just for inspiration (no copying!):
Android logo: very close but a little too simple;
Sponge-bob: close but too complicated;
Dilbert: great example but too human.
pearls before swine: right on!
Rayman Raving Rabbids: right on!

Feel free to break some rules. Good luck and happy holidays!
