The Linc is a nonprofit after school mentoring center for under-privileged children in the inner city of Huntsville, Alabama. I need a kid-friendly logo to use on a letterhead, business cards, t-shirts, a website, posters, etc. It will also be used for brochures and fundraising purposes.
The Linc is provided free of charge for students first grade through eigth grade and is run almost completely by volunteers from local churches and schools. Each day the students participate in group acitivities, such as cooking class, arts and crafts, sports, and games, after which we have a hot evening meal together. Volunteers provide an hour and a half of individual tutoring for the students after the meal. We also go on a field trip once a week to museums, swimming lessons, the mountain for hiking, etc. The program is named "The Linc" because it targets the LINColn Village community and is aimed at LINKing children to the resources and support that they need to be successful in school and to dream of a life where they can achieve their potential. The program was started by a small church who wanted to embody the love of God to children in their own community.
The Linc needs a logo that the children can identify with and that can be easily identified in the community in order to encourage volunteers to support the program. The logo will also be used on things such as fundrasing materials, gifts for volunteers, and children's tshirts.
I am open to creative suggestions. The children are mostly elementary-aged students and they come from the inner city community. I like bright colors and am picturing using graffiti lettering (but without making it look like we encourage defacing public property). I would like for it incorporate some of the aspects of the program, such as faith, support, creativity, and learning.
