Logo for scientific training network on biodiversity genetics in Peru and Colombia

I lead a research project based at a natural history museum (at a university). The project concerns training graduate students from Peru, Colombia, and Norway about genetics, evolution, and biodiversity. This project aims to improve the quality of education and research cooperation between several universities in Norway, Peru, and Colombia via research stays, practical courses in cutting-edge molecular biology and bioinformatics. Our ultimate goal is to contribute towards the conservation of biodiversity. This logo will be used on t-shirts, coffee mugs, and the project website designed for the general public to learn about the science we are doing, as well as in our social media presence (Twitter/Facebook). I have a grand vision for the logo: a giant fig/ficus tree covered with Amazonian biodiversity, with its roots reaching into the Amazon River. The tree represents both the Tree of Life (symbolizing the relatedness of all species on Earth, in which the tip of each branch represents a different species) and how the 'mother tree' supports/nurtures the species in the rainforest. Some inspiration regarding the spectacular (and colorful) biodiversity we might like to represent in the logo: macaw parrot, jaguar, iguana, pink river dolphin, tree snake, tree frog, snail, orchid flowers, etc. If it is possible to include DNA/genetic elements in the design in a subtle way, I welcome submissions/ideas like that. The network is training in computer approaches to analyzing genetic data, so digital elements would also be welcome in the design, if it works.
