***UPDATED BRIEF: While I would like to explore the idea I mentioned below and like aspects of my current logo, please don’t feel restrained to those exact elements or visually very similar. The leaf/tree or DNA are core components to my concept but it’s not a mandate - I would love to see all sorts of creative ideas and have provided a sampling of how the industry is representing genealogy in modern logos. What comes to mind when you think of MasterGenealogy? You are all creative, talented designers and I can’t wait to see your ideas!***
***UPDATE 2 on Brief*** I am also open to fully different concepts that don't necessarily have either of the representations of a leaf or DNA - maybe you have an idea that comes to mind. You are all creative and brilliant, and I'd love ideas that I wouldn't think of - either with lettering, a mark, or a design. What moves you when you think of the idea? I'm open to that as well!
*OVERVIEW* The two core aspects of genealogy (family history research) right now are traditional paper genealogy - historical records and research, though mostly online - and genetic genealogy - using DNA test results to create a genetic family tree that can identify your ancestors or current living biological relatives. I’ve invkuded examples of several genealogy companies (none of these are same concept - they are more for reference as they are were you search for historical records or get your DNA tested.)
My target audience are family historians who likely have subscriptions and use all of the companies with the brands I’ve provided. They are adults - likely 35 to 70, educated, savvy online - problem solvers and like to think and be challenged. They are self-taught so the idea is that they are getting access to the secrets and inside tools of the masters to take their skills to a higher level. So they are sophisticated - the brand can’t be juvenile feeling while it’s still modern and smart.
1) I currently operate as a professional genealogist under the brand Archway Genealogy, I really like the modernity of my logo (DNA in the arched "A" and the leaf that shapes the "G" in my current logo. One idea for MasterGenealogy was to go with a similar idea but use a simplified (but still identifiable) twist of a DNA helix for a center angle of a M if using the initials, MG. (I should be clear that I don’t necessarily need it to be the dna or leaf or font exactly that I’m using now.) I'm not AT ALL married to that idea - I don’t necessarily just want that done to what I have now bc I could do that myself. And I don’t think just the loose text and letters are really a “logo/brand”- it’s just an idea - I do like the balance of traditional but with a modern edge.
2) I would like to use the lettering or mark or emblem on its own as well as using the brand name on its own. It does not have to be in an emblem shape but maybe could be put in one - basically something that implies education, academy, learning - and can become a "badge" of sorts that people can use as they acquire more experience at Master Genealogy. This will be paired with a learning platform with badges and accreditation. I don’t want it something obviously elementary looking, more just that there is a mark / letters / emblem that can be used and recognizable.
3) I am open to creative ideas - Master has many meanings for this concept of MasterGenealogy. You will master skills, learn from the masters, take master classes but genealogy is the heart of the content.
4) I want it to feel modern and not "dusty historical" but not so edgy that it isn't instantly understood. And, I'd like it to be something that the mark / emblem / letters could stand on it's own if need be to be recognizable on documents or webpages.
Yay - Can't wait to see your ideas! Thank you in advance!
