Portland Psychotherapy Clinic, Research, & Training Center
We are an outpatient mental health clinic that provides therapy and also conducts research and trains other clinicians. We are psychologists that emphasize empirically-based treatments, often based on mindfulness principles. Our work is strongly rooted in science while at the same time emphasizing our compassion for the people that we serve. Some of the main themes in our therapy have to do with values (not morality, please), mindfulness, acceptance, vitality, and meaning, in case any of those words give you inspiration. While we utilize mindfulness principles, we are not associated with Buddhism and don't want to give that impression (so please, no lotus blossoms-- besides, every therapist in Portland has a lotus blossom on their business cards). If the logo emphasize the "Portland Psychotherapy Clinic" and the "Research & Training Center" was less prominent that would be fine.
We serve a wide variety of client from diverse background. We are located in Portland, Oregon, which has a fairly young, computer-savvy culture that is often fairly liberal. We often get many of our referrals from the internet. We also want to reach out to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer community.
1-3 colors (color, not simply black and white, but black might be good to be one of the colors). The logo will be used primarily on our website, but also on some print advertising, so black and one other color might be best.
We like the concept of the logo we are currently using (see our website at http://www.portlandpsychotherapyclinic.com), which we came up with ourselves and is based on a Maori symbol meaning "The ability to change in an everchanging world" as that seems to fit with what we help our clients do. Something that plays on that concept might be interesting but that's not a necessity by any means. We tend to like designs that are more organic in nature, that are more fluid and suggestive of shapes found in nature rather than linear and geometric. We are looking for your creativity and help!
A logo is our primary interest, but if it could also be incorporated into a banner for the website, that would be a bonus.
I use Macromedia Fireworks 8 for simple graphics design and manipulation, so something that was in vector graphics and editable in that program would be what I'd want. Photoshop files are usually importable into png files, but I'd want to make sure that it retained its appearance when it was exported to a png file. I think photoshop has the capability to export to png.
