Pacifica Christian High School is a private, liberal arts and sciences college-preparatory school. We are launching a new program called STEAM Scholar this fall (see Mission Statement below for details) and we would like the program to have its own logo. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
STEAM MISSION STATEMENT
The future of the global marketplace rests on individuals who are principled leaders in innovation, fostering discoveries and encouraging collaboration to create new industries and jobs.
The STEAM program equips students to think holistically about science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Such an integrative approach combines the strengths of individual disciplines with projects that require multidisciplinary solutions in order to simulate real world environments, challenges, and opportunities. The STEAM program will provide students with the skills and virtues necessary to develop as individuals capable of addressing the needs of the broader world.
Much research and data shows that the Arts use right brain thinking to foster creativity, a quality essential to innovation and problem solving. Combined with a strong curriculum in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, this new paradigm offers students the best opportunities to develop the skills needed to meet the dynamic challenges of the 21st century.
The Pacifica STEAM Scholars program offers students interested in these fields the opportunity to focus their studies around these courses. Students who successfully complete the program will graduate with STEAM honors and receive a STEAM endorsement on their official transcript. STEAM Scholars are required to take ten STEAM courses. The students will also complete an internship at a university, business, or non-profit. Finally, students must successfully complete a final senior project focusing their efforts on STEAM issues. Students are accepted into the program at the end of the second semester of their sophomore year.
