I am an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad application developer. I currently have several applications on the Apple App Store that are selling well, and I am excited about the iPad. I am a mobile devices application developer, as well as a Java, Ruby, and PHP developer. Anything mobile-related gets me excited, as it's a truly remarkable new market!
Current market is anyone who uses their phone for navigation. iPad users may use the device for navigation, but it is unsure whether or not this target audience will be exclusive to it. This application is for people who navigate either by boat, foot, plane, or by car. My application has appealed to skydivers, paragliders, and even troops in the middle east!
The application that currently exists on the iPhone is called "Traveling Companion" and has previously been listed as #3 in the Top Selling Navigation applications.
This application will be similar in design to that, however, I need space for a larger compass, two more spaces on the right of the dark blocks so I can put in relevant information like their nearest intersection or current weather conditions (be creative, maybe you have better ideas on what to display here!)
I currently display the Long/Lat GPS coordinates, known intersection (taken from Google Maps), rate of speed, altitude. I would like to display device pitch and yaw (in degrees), current weather conditions, and other intersection or atlas information about their current location.
Top portion should be navigation info, and the bottom should be the map. The compass needs to be proportionally larger, as does the area for text information. If you think the navigation portion of the screen could be larger or smaller, to accomodate the application space, then go ahead and show me a better design!
The sizes of the graphics do NOT have to be exactly as shown in the iPad screenshot. They can take up the whole display; I simply used that design as a starting point.
Please be aware, however, this is an iPad application, and will be driven with the fingers. Note, in the current design, there's dark black areas for text in the layout of the design.
I need a background, separate graphic elements, layout positions, and text font names/colors. Good luck!!
