This is the story about a very sad, small for his age, African-American boy, aged 10, who has lost his father, a war hero in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, and now he is dealing with the discrimination against Black children that was so common in the United States after the War. He is a boy who is forced to wear rather heavy glasses, which make it difficult for him to play games with other children, but he is a very find marble player, really the best in his school. Marbles is a game that is described in the short story, but you can find out much more on line, including what the marbles (shooters and glassies) looked like. The game is played in a circle in the dirt, on the ground, with the boys normally on their knees. The key symbols in the story are: (1) the marbles, (2) the boy, (3) the General, (4) the Assembly, and (5) the magic shooter he is given by a neighbor. This is intended for an eBook cover so special care must be made to have titles that are readable and a cover that is attractive and attention getting. The story is attached and I strongly suggest that you take the time to read it. The cover is 8.5" by 11", and I require it in pdf and psd formats.
