Geographic Information Services, Inc.
We are a custom software development /consulting firm, with a focus on GIS (geographic information systems). We help organizations take their raw data and use it to create visual, interactive maps (think Google Earth with more in-depth information on each location in the map). The interactive maps we create are used by companies to make intelligent business decisions (i.e. where to put a new store in a chain, where customers are located, how can we do a better job of collecting property taxes, etc). You can learn more about what we do by visiting our current website (http://www.gis-services.com).
Our audience is anyone/any organization that could benefit from mapping software. We have customers/prospects from a variety of markets: federal government, state & local government, and commercial companies. Our target audience consists of people that already know what GIS is and are generally very web and technology intelligent. They are for the most part people that we have already made some sort of contact with, so we want our website to back up what we have told them about us—that we are able to provide them with cutting edge technology that can meet their mapping needs. The applications that we design for our clients are very technologically sophisticated, thus our website (our face to the world) needs to appear technologically sophisticated in order to show potential clients what we are capable of.
We would like a new look & feel for our website. We would like a website that provides a better user experience than our current one (want a website that people want to explore-not the typical boxes with horizontal row of tabs at the top). Since we are a cutting edge technology company, we can wire just about anything that you can create—so feel free to be adventurous. We would like the following ideas to come across in the design: tech savvy, premier, leading edge, innovative, professional, while still down to earth, customer-centric and personable.
We would like for the design to take up as much of the page as possible (no white space on sides). Our logo, company name, and tagline (Let ‘s Get Down to Earth) need to be somewhere on the page. We would like access points to 5 sub pages (Home, Who We Are, What We Do, News & Events, and Contact Us). We would also like to have a box/area that we can put random information in (rotate news & events or customer testimonials in). We prefer a landscape-oriented design, not portrait.
The common theme for all of these is that they are not your basic “boxy” website. They all contain interactive images and are artsy/graphic. We would like a healthy balance between graphically appealing and easy to use/navigate.
