Riassunto

Searching for a design for a web site that will be used across the US by high school students with disabilities. Purpose of the site is to capture their progress towards graduation.

Che cosa ti ispira e qual è la visione del design della tua attività?

We are launching a new website focused on helping high school students with disabilities capture information and artifacts that represent their progress towards graduation. The site will include a variety destination pages including their profile page, an assignment calendar that is managed by the student, a page that lists the items required by the government that they must demonstrate before being able to graduate, a page where the student can upload the artifacts that demonstrate their capabilities, a page where they can journal, and a page that summarizes their progress. We're looking for something fresh, fun, and inviting. Something that will be attractive to high school students.
We are looking for a design for the home page - which will be relatively simple. The home page is the entryway into the site and will consist of a logon area as well as a general paragraph or two that describes the site. We are also looking for a general template that can be used for secondary pages - such as those pages listed above. You may select any of the pages below to form the basis for your generic page design. In the production version of the site there will be a:
- page that focuses on the students profile, including: name, school, their picture, a box to upload their education plan, a place to write about their post high school goals, their dream job, and their dream college or post secondary training
- a page that focuses on their responses to the list of items they must accomplish to graduate -- essentially a check list that is segmented by category and sub category, with check boxes for To Do and Done, with a date picker for when they think they can accomplish the to do, and a select box to associate the artifacts that they've uploaded with that item - demonstrating that they've accomplished the task.
- a calendar page with a list of their assignments in a calendar view (assignments, to-dos, upcoming school events, etc)
- a journal page where the student will write daily entries into their journals
- a summary page that shows highlights of all the content listed above (e.g., their profile, their responses to the items they must address to graduate (a checklist with references to files that they've uploaded that prove they've met the requirements), a link to their journal page
The desire is for a site that looks somewhat like a students room at home, or their desk, or their work area, or any other concepts around workspaces that would appeal to high school students. Something fun, colorful, inviting - focused on kids who are 12 - 17 years old. Our site will cover a broad cross section of students - including both male and female.
The group likes the following concepts and general feel of the following websites. You may pull concepts from any of these sites as a foundation for the design:

- http://www.freelenz.at/ -- the group likes the icons and the picture of the workspace on this page. They like the realism of the icon set used.
- http://onwired.com -- the group likes the background on this site and how colors are used to delineate various areas and functions of the site
- http://www.cakephp.org/ -- the group really likes the overall design of this site -- especially the use of color and the "crispness" of the design
- http://www.etondigital.com/ and http://www.smtick.com/ -- the group likes the use of paperclips and post-it notes. They like the organic layering and angle of clipped items - as it provides a realistic 3D feel.
- Dark banner with white letters: We would like to use a dark banner (black, dark brown, or navy) with light letters (white or cream) – this combo stands out well. Example sites include: http://whoisjengordon.com/ http://www.smtick.com/ For purposes of prototyping a banner -- the name of this project is the Electronic Portfolio Management System. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to post them. We anticipate that there will be follow-on design work for the selected designer.

Mi piace

- A sample home page and secondary page that leverages the home page design elements - but provides a large content area. The home page will be a simple logon page with a small amount of information to highlight the purpose of the site.
- Designs that will appeal to high school students - remembering that the target audience is those students with learning disabilities.
- A web 2.0 style design
- A design that will work well in a web CMS solution

Non voglio

- Something that looks like a theme from a site from Template Monster or other commercial template sites -- we've looked at most of them and couldn't find something that was unique enough to meet our needs
