We are a customer focused musical instrument retailer that has been around for over 30 years. Recently we started selling online and we maintain two sites: one informational and one ecommerce. We need to merge them. We as well as our customers share the common thread of music, but we have to have broad appeal.

We share the common thread of being musicians but we have to be able to appeal to a jazz drummer and a heavy metal guitarist at the same time. We need our site to be functional and stylish but not over targeted to a specific demographic.
We currently have two websites: an informational site and an ecommerce site. We are looking to merge the two so that we have one site that is very forward about buying products online, but also has lots of information for musicians.
It's important to us that the user has access to a lot of information from the homepage without the page being cluttered.
Our idea is to have a horizontal nav bar across the top with main headings and then have very descriptive breakouts when mousing over the headings to get to the more specific content.
The front page needs should be laid out somewhat like the crude drawing attached. Header, nav bar, large rotating flash content area, and then dynamic content below that focuses on new products and Wordpress content that will dynamically be updating regularly, and finally a footer.
