Denman

Denman is the Women's Institute’s centre for learning, offering a wealth of opportunities to learn new skills on day schools and short courses in the field of cookery, craft and lifestyle. Everyone is welcome – men and women, members and non-members – we can even cater for groups of friends who are looking for something a bit different.

Set in the picturesque village of Marcham, near Oxford, the Georgian mansion and 17 acres of grounds provide a relaxing environment for learning.

The Denman range includes something for every interest – from curries, cakes and crochet to papercutting, photography and Pilates – and the courses are designed to cater for the complete beginner to the more accomplished practitioner.

We'd like to stick to our "Denman Green" which is in our logo. A general design/branded look that mimics the simplicity of the logo and the current WI page, making sure the style is accessible to all ages, but mostly those over 50 years of age. Timeless, not dated.

We need to emphasise the importance of booking online, the value for money, the fact that we're also a charity, the variety of what we offer, and how unique the institution is.

Home page – would be nice to have a slider, ensuring the text going over is bold and visible for an accessibility point of view. Also highlights (so we can focus on low enrolled). No calendar, too complicated. Would be nice to have a “download the current brochure here” as a highlight. And socials.

Schools / Courses / Events (all exact same design) – Schools: descriptors of Cookery, Craft, Lifestyle, but also Tutor pages would be a nice touch (though we have about 150 tutors so dependent on how that could work as a design). Courses: we will have a Booking Live system, but also this section will have more information than what is in the printed guide on each course e.g. schedule for the day, links to tutor websites. Events: as above, there will be a Booking Live system, but this section will need to look a little different to the courses, as there are less of them every year and they tend to be special guests etc.

Blog – capacity to upload high res images, embed videos, and host text.

About / Contact / Visit us / Support Us / What We Offer – as per any other website (must include t’s & c’s, policies, etc). Support us – this will have to be part blog (because of the Saving Denman Appeal) but also it would be ideal to be able to sign people up as Friends, Ambassadors, Guides, Volunteers, etc. Also would love to be able to highlight exactly how much Denman offers. This could spread to 2 pages but should be the same design.

We are open to ideas. But please don't go for a typical "older lady vibe".
